In America, the early performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the category of child prodigies. For a child with Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family, this came naturally. Maureen entered this loving haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons was the mother of her. She was a accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share in "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons made up this beautiful family. Maureen was a fan of rough and athletic games as a child and was a pro in athletics. Her talent for performing was the perfect match for her passion for athletics. She was the recipient of nearly every Feis awards for her native country's theater and drama proved the fact that she was a natural performer. At age fourteen, she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study the art of opera and classical theatre.
